What is AMR?
Antimicrobials are medicines that kill or slow the growth of microorganisms (bacteria, virus, fungus) that cause diseases. The most commonly prescribed antimicrobial are antibiotics.
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is a natural occuring phenomenon whenever antimicrobials unable to “kill” the microorganisms (bacterial, virus and fungus). Which may lead to “treatment failure” or the inability to cure the infection. The overuse and misuse of antimicrobial drugs however expedites this phenomenon. AMR refers to the broader term antimicrobial resistance. This term includes all microorganisms that develop resistance to antimicrobial medicines.
